Anti-Violence Initiative Program
The Anti-street gang and Anti-violence Initiative Program came as a direct result from our staff communicating and listening to the concerns of our parents during home visits. Several parents had stressed their concerns about the rise of youth gang activities in their community and how they constantly worried for their children's safety, particularly when their children are on their way to school and returning home, and also when playing at the neighborhood parks. To highlight parents concern regarding the violence by youth gangs, it was quite unfortunate when gang members injured one of our parent's youngsters (not seriously). We immediately took action by visiting with the parent, school officials, and local police agency to request assistance in this matter. The results of our intervention was that the parent felt like she was not alone, and as a member of our organization she received immediate assistance. Her son is healthy and his quality of life is not threatened and he is functioning as a positive youth. |
